Proud To Serve Feature: The Town of Coupeville, Washington

The town of Coupeville has the distinction of being the second oldest town in the State of Washington. Founded in 1852 by Captain Thomas Coupe, this quaint little town of barely 1,800 residents has much to recommend it in the way of charm. Stroll down its streets and you’ll see a variety of house styles — including Block Houses, Saltbox, and the Victorian Queen Anne — that have been kept in mint condition since they were built.

Although Coupeville is located in the northwest corner of Washington State, on Penn Cove, Central Whidbey Island, it gets far less rain than you would expect for its location. The reason is that it is sheltered from many rainstorms by the Olympic Mountains. This mountain effect is why the town’s climate is actually classified as warm summer Mediterranean.
