 Window Tracks Need Cleaning

Help! My window tracks need cleaning!

Malinda A from Burlington asks: Your blog post last month about cleaning window screens was really helpful. I used your tricks, my screens are looking great, and my house is lighter and brighter (well, it least it is when the sun peeks out from behind these rain clouds). But I still have a cleaning problem – my window tracks are filthy. I’ve tried wiping them with paper towels, I’ve tried using a “magic sponge”, and I’ve even tried vacuuming them, but no matter what I do, there are still deposits of icky hard dirt in the cracks and corners that I can’t seem to loosen up. I’m thinking that a spray on oven-cleaner might do the trick, but I really don’t want to use that kind of chemical in my house. Do you have any special secrets you could share with me?

Ask the Experts – Cleaning Plastic Windows

The Cleaning Experts at  A Clean Streak answer your toughest cleaning questions.

Plastic Window Cleaning TipsRay G. from Mount Vernon asks: Here’s an interesting one for you. My wife and I just purchased a home with a finished basement. Originally, we thought that the basement windows were installed with glass panes coated with plastic sheeting (and we fully intended on removing the discolored coating). But, we just discovered that the panes are actually made of plastic, and it’s the panes themselves that need cleaning. We want to remove the grime and water spots, but we’re really not interested in scratching the plastic panes. Do you have any expert advice you could share with us?

Clean your WindowsMichelle L. from Mount Vernon asks: When I was a little girl, both my Grandma and my Mother told me that the best way to get our windows clean was with white vinegar, a splash of ammonia, and newsprint. Window Cleaning SolutionsBill C. from Whidbey Island asks: I’m lucky enough to own a vacation home near Swantown on Whidbey Island and have noticed that the windows on the west side of the house get a lot dirtier than all the other ones, though they don’t seem to be more exposed to the elements.
